This is my print for the 2020 print exchange run by Hot Bed Press.
Here’s the stipulations… an edition of 25 prints. Each measuring 20cm x 20 cm and in a printed medium. .. So I spend the weekend half looking after my beautiful son, half designing the best piece I can come up with and on Sunday evening, rock up to the workshop, expose a screen, mix some colours and get to work…
So here we have it.. printed on Somerset Velvet Grey paper in 3 colours mixed in Lascaux inks by hand… The idea for this print plays with the idea of drawing you in.. first you see the profile, then the landscape and finally your eye is led to the two figures who are lit by the shaft of light coming from the upstairs window of a lit corridor.
Im referencing the opening scene of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘The Conversation’ where a couple are observed and recorded from a distance. I’m also paying homage to the poster designed by Bill Gold for Friedkin’s ‘The Exorcist.’ … Both movies are in the top 5 of my all time favourite films, so I figure I havent printed in a while, why not start again with something I love… The other filmic reference is the scene in Kubrik’s ‘The Shining’ where we view Danny and his Mum walking through a maze, seemingly from an impossible height.
The verso design.. I wanted to design my own persoanl small logo for the 2020 print exchange. It features and alchemical vessel and a goat girl with upturned crescent moon. These are regular themes in my work.
This print is what it is. It is made with love and printed with an extreme attention to detail… If you have taken the time to read this then my inner being thanks you for your indulgence and sends love across the unified field into your heart. ….
